Increasing Self Talk with Positive Self Talk

We usually indulge in a lot of self talk. It has been assessed that around 1400 words every minute travel in our brains which convey as well as express many thoughts which mold or form our views of the world around us and determine our intellectual state of mind.

Much of the self talk is in fact the effect of a person’s thinking just coming out of our subconscious mind and is our past conditioning and many other aspects which has effect on our subconscious process of thinking.

When you indulge in the self talk, the conversation which you enter into with yourself almost always is the most powerful factor of our intellectual state. If many of them are extremely negative, like “I’m not at all good”, or “I’m a failure”, will make you most unhappy with low motivation and confidence.

However, if a persons self talk is highly positive and lifts up his confidence, then the reverse is always true. You can easily use the mental self help to change other persons self talk to negative state from the positive state.

Like for instance, you engage in self talk with yourself on the way your life should be, there are chances that your life could turn out the way you want it to be. So, just talk with yourself to improve your outlook and personality. However, these techniques are cumbersome for a person to apply and generally take a long time.

One of the most suitable methods of enhancing the self talk is by making use of the positive affirmations. Nevertheless, in order to make them work, they need to be performed properly. This is very easy way to change or modify one’s self talk, you just start speaking to yourself in a favorable and optimistic way and with perseverance, your deep subconscious mind start changing its habits and now your self talk develops the positive tones!

If you indulge in the negative talk or declarations of things you don’t like or want, would in fact increase a person’s negative energy flow and would just condition your subconscious mind to achieve what you never want in the first place.

All people should take care of problems and enrage from time to time but it truly is how you respond along with the choices that you make which might be the secret to overcoming these difficulties.

Positive and Negative Symptoms of Schizophrenia

People suffering from Schizophrenia will experience both positive and negative symptoms, typical characteristics of the mental disorder. This article seeks to discuss both symptoms in more detail.

Positive Symptoms

Positive symptoms define all symptoms which are more specific to Schizophrenic patients and are not normally experienced by healthy individuals. These signs point to losing touch with the real world. Positive symptoms can be either severe or mild which are unnoticeable by people around. Positive systems include delusions, illusions, hallucinations and having nebulous thinking.

Negative Symptoms

Negative symptoms define all symptoms that can occur in any healthy individual in response to certain emotional or physical setback. Negative symptoms are not blatantly noticeable and are hard to identify. Here is a list of the different negative Schizophrenia symptoms:

1. Dullness in the mood and voice of a person: The person may speak in a monotonous fashion without any expressions on the face or any movement of the face.

2. Depression and loss of pleasure in day to day life: The person loses interest in any activity, feels hopeless, helpless, miserable and pathetic, experiences guilt, and has constant self depreciation thoughts in his mind. Such a person does not feel enthusiastic or interested in anything in spite of rewards, recognitions or encouragement.

3. Lack concentration during the day to day activities: The person is not motivated, undergoes loss of enthusiasm and loses concentration in many activities.

4. Emotional imbalance and social withdrawal: The person experiences lack of emotion and loses connection with his loved ones. The person is unable to respond to any external emotional stimuli. He is likely to show emotions at the wrong time, for example, crying at a wedding and laughing at a funeral. He likes to spend time alone and will choose not to talk to anyone even when he is encouraged to do so.

5. Failure to articulate: When the frontal lobe of the brain is damaged, a Schizophrenia patient will not be able to communicate and process thoughts properly.

6. Incompetence in planning, organizing and following instructions: The person is unable to perform planning or organize things in an orderly manner. He will find it challenging to organize and express his thoughts when communicating to people. Hence it becomes very difficult for a normal individual to understand a Schizophrenic patient who sounds very confusing, illogical and unclear in certain situations. Schizophrenic patients can also face difficulty in following instructions to perform straightforward tasks.

7. Loss of appetite: The person has loss of appetite and does not feel like eating even if he has not had any food for long and his body requires it.

8. Lack of personal hygiene: The person becomes very lazy and seems like he cannot take care of himself. He even neglects his day to day tasks like bathing and maintaining personal hygiene.

9. Violent behaviors: Generally, this symptom is observed only in Schizophrenic patients who have been short tempered or who have committed crimes in the past. In cases of Schizophrenia patients, these violent behaviors worsen.

10. Talking about self destruction: The person might talk about committing suicide. When such incident happens, the patient must be taken seriously and medical attention is needed immediately.

Schizophrenia is a disabling mental condition that is extremely complicated and hard to understand. This disorder is affecting up to 2 million people in USA today. You can visit Clivir.com to find out more schizophrenia diagnosis and paranoid schizophrenia symptoms.

Positive Behavioural Management in Young Children

On a first teaching practice when training to be a teacher was the first time in a primary classroom since leaving primary school to move to seniors. Two things caused surprise. First, the classrooms were so small — well they’d seemed huge all those years earlier! Secondly was the way that the desks, or tables by that time, were arranged in the classroom. They were set in groups with half a dozen children sitting around tables facing each other… very strange!

Comments such as, ‘What do you expect’, ‘We can’t do anything because that’s what kids are like now’, ‘We just have to put up with it’, or ‘Kids have changed and that’s how they are now’.

It’s just abject acceptance of disgraceful behaviour. It’s become a regular response that there’s nothing adults can do to prevent such behaviour. That is what’s happening in schools and homes — it’s rife throughout society in general. But, who’s going to do anything about bad behaviour if adults have decided that they can’t tackle the situation?

If the bad behaviour is allowed to continue and become even worse it’s too easy for adults to start thinking that this unbearable situation is normal – and it certainly isn’t normal!

So often, a child who is displaying any difficult behaviours is viewed holistically as a “behavior problem”. A veil of “behavior” precedes the child and in effect places a label on them. It is vital that carers strip back this veil and identify the specific behaviours that actually cause concern. In doing so, we may actually realize that there are not as many poor behavior patterns as we think, and we can target our strategies to manage the child’s behavior more effectively.

In another articles I suggested that challenging behavior is only the tip of the iceberg. 80 – 90 percent of the iceberg lies below the surface of the water, hidden. So often the actual behavior can make us so frustrated that we are blind to, or forget to look at, what might lie beneath. However, the key to actually managing behavior is unlock the “why”.

The reasons why behaviors occur are many and varied. Social changes, frustration, attention seeking, poor role modeling, and learning difficulties are just a few. The way we identify these reasons will involve careful observation and documentation, and discussion with the family and colleagues.

We need to look at why the behaviours are of concern and why we want to change them. A loud and outgoing child’s behavior does not need managing (because individual personalities should be fostered) unless the behavior is causing disruption to others, or preventing the child from engaging in learning experiences.

By identifying why we want to change the behavior, we can again target our management strategies more effectively. The loud outgoing child may actually be creating a stressful environment for staff in the indoor environment. The child who verbally dominates and bosses may be harming other child’s self confidence.

After identifying the specific behaviours causing concern in step 1, it is then important to be just as specific to identify the specific behaviours we want to develop in the child. For example, the loud outgoing child may be allowed to flourish in the outdoor environment but needs strategies for calming and settling indoors. The child who verbally dominates and bosses others may be channeled to leadership roles in some situations, but may need support to use positive language and to develop their listening skills.

The important thing is to try one or two strategies at a time, to try them for an extended period of time to allow the child to respond, and to be consistent both yourself and between other staff and carers.

How To Boost Positive Thinking & Optimism

Our viewpoint towards life can determine our attitude in life. If we have a positive outlook, we will tend to do positive things and this can help us to be more happy. On the other hand, if we have a negative outlook, we will tend to do things negatively; which can cause misery in life.

Your outlook in life is so important, and yet many people never give it much thought. If you’re optimistic, you’ll open doors for yourself and lead a happy life. However, with a negative mindset, you could end up in places that you never intended to be. This isn’t some fairytale ideal; it’s absolutely true!

It’s not difficult to cultivate optimism and positive outlook in life. I will share with you some concrete tips you can use to achieve that; it’s all up to you whether you want to live happily in life or feeling stress and unhappy all the time. I hope you choose to live stress-free and happy in life.

Here are some easy tips or techniques you can use to boost and cultivate your optimism:

1. Avoid getting hung up on one thing. Sometimes you may feel like there’s one situation that’s holding you back. Maybe there’s just one thing that has seemingly ruined your day. Resolve to let it go so it doesn’t bother you anymore. After all, there’s a whole world out there just waiting for you to experience!

2. Always strive to look at the bright side in life. If you have a bad day, don’t allow that bad feeling to spread, try to look for a silver lining. There is always light even in darkest places. Remember that success always come after some setbacks. The important thing to remember here is to learn from your mistakes, learn how to remove the stumbling block that is blocking your way; improve it and move forward. That’s how success is achieved.

3. Get over the past. Remember that the past is the past; it doesn’t need to keep repeating itself. In fact, if you keep recalling the past, you are the one taking it with you into your future. Learn how to let it go no matter how painful it might have been. The future can be filled with great things, but a great future can only start when you’ve come to terms with your past.

4. Be thankful. Make a list of all the things you’re thankful for in your life. Include even the smallest things, like the lucky penny you found on the street or the loving hug your partner gave you today. You’ll most likely end up with a long list that you can look to whenever you feel like you’re slipping into negativity.

5. Use positive affirmations. Nothing brings out optimism like the use of affirmations. These positive statements bring optimistic energy into your present. They are a way of communicating with your subconscious mind so you can maintain control over how you feel. Use them every day and every time you need a boost of positivity.

6. Stay away from negative people as they will drag you down. Surround yourself with positive people and share with them your positive viewpoint in life. If you share positive things with people; people will also share positive things with you. Positive people can help to motivate and enlighten you when you are having problems in your life.

7. Watch your language. Do you speak positively to yourself and others, or are you judgmental and negative? Try to shift over to only positive speech. Practice using upbeat words while you focus on the positive in every situation.

8. Learn to accept things as they are. Remember that even a positive life has ups and downs. Life won’t always be perfect, but there are many ways you can still make the best of it. Accept the fact that bad things will happen from time to time, but avoid dwelling on these things. You’ll bounce back if you remain open to optimism.

Optimism is easy to cultivate if you start from your mind or the way you think. Always remember to think positively even if you are facing with difficult challenges. All problems have a solution even the most difficult one. When your mind is thinking positively, it will reflect in your action and attitude. And positive attitude and positive actions will always produce positive results.

That is how you cultivate and boost your optimism. Hope you find the tips in this article useful.

What is Your Favorite Positive Feeling?

What is your favorite positive feeling? These days, I think I will take contentment, and a sense of quiet pride.

And that feeling comes from looking back over the last 30 years at the effective choices of my life, choices that did entail hard work, but paid off.

I did not always take the easier, softer way, sometimes I took the road less traveled, and made it through.

I have learned a great deal about the inside of me, and how I operate emotionally.

While I am feeling content at this moment, all I need to do to create a feeling of shame is remember some crazy episode from my youth, or even as a parent and I can change the feeling of contentment to one of embarassment or even shame, over a memory where my emotions were too strong for what the child had done.

The very cool thing that I have learned is that I can change my thought to change my feeling.

I can remember what it was like to finish my last final exam in graduate school, get the grade of A, know that I had successfully completed, the first in my family to have a graduate degree, and re-experience that marvelous moment all over again. That night I took a good long time to stroll around the campus at Illinois State University where my journey began some 30 years previously just to take it all in, and to say goodbye. It is a bittersweet feeling, and that moment happened over 13 years ago.

So when I am feeling helpless or resentful or ashamed, I can remember that moment of transcendence for both me and my family, for no other reason than to have my positive feeling back.

That is what my memories will do for me.

Change the thought to change the feeling.

You can go back further if you want, to a moment of excellence as a child, if you want to change the thought to change the feeling.

I can remember any number of moments in Little League baseball for example, and re-experience the sense of efficacy I had as a little boy, especially when I got the double off my buddy Chuck Helling, who pitched for the Dodgers.

In fact, it is very healthy for me to have that kind of chemistry in my body, so why not practice cognitive skills that allow me to have a quiet sense of pride in my ability to problem solve, not to be grandiose, but to be healthy. What I mean is that changing the thought to change the negative feeling to a positive feeling changes stress hormones that I have now, in my body, because the memory is now, to DHEA, the anti-aging hormone.

There are a lot of tools available today that can help me practice positive feelings heart beat by heart beat if I want to, and the one I have used for the last nine years, both personally and professionally is a heart rate variability biofeedback tool.

If I want to get really sophisticated with heart rate variability biofeedback, I can manage my feelings literally heart beat by heart beat from now until my heart stops.

It turns out the heart has a rather sophisticated nervous system all of its own, which can learn and make decisions independently of any other brain I have.

And I can train that brain with biofeedback so that I can access that cooperative and affiliative heart intelligence whenever I want, and my heart will then regulate its coherence for me.

Coherence refers to the time between heart beats and when I regulate that, my entire body, every cell impacted by the pneumatic and electromagnetic activity of my heart (all your cells) begins to dance to the same beat, like your body vibrates to the bass line in your favorite rock and roll anthem.

This is an easy skill to learn using heart rate variability biofeedback on my computer, and once I have learned it, I no longer need the computer, I can cue the physiology with a cue thought that I created in my practice.

For example, I think of my children’s faces, and that image does not have to be very detailed, and I place them inside the volume of my chest, next to my heart, and I can feel the love there, and I can create that thought anytime I want a positive feeling, perhaps every five minutes for two heart beats.

Remember, changing the thought to change the feelings happens really quickly.

I can create either a positive or negative feeling in 1/18th second, which is why I think it is important to practice regular positive feeling.

As I do my heart rate variability biofeedback and my heart learns that it is to be coherent when I remember my cue thought, the process internally gets very fast. In fact my body does not like to get too far away from coherence after awhile, and gently reminds me with some discomfort.

And the feeling is a very positive feeling.

Heart rate variability also helps me open the higher perceptual centers in my brain, which is a good thing for the brain fitness capacities recently discovered called neuroplasticity and neurogenesis.

Our brains actually grow new brain cells daily, but does not keep them unless they are given a novel learning challenge, like learning a new language, or a new instrument, or by practicing computerized brain fitness programs. That is neurogenesis.Too frequent doses of stress hormones or poisons like ethyl alcohol block neurogenesis.

Neuroplasticity is the word used to describe the efforts made by my neurons to connect with other neurons to cement new learning.

The more connections I have the better I am able to ward off alzheimers disease.

However, the co-authors of Brainfit for Life Simon Evans,Ph.D. and Paul Burghardt,Ph.D., report that those neuroplastic connections are evaluated during your sleep each night and decisions are made about which connection to keep and which to delete, so do not skimp on your sleep, which impacts your positive feelings too.

Practice Positive Feelings

The practice of positive feelings involves cognitive and physiological components.

I can manage my thoughts to feel positively, I can manage my physiology and thoughts to feel positively, and I can encourage brain fitness which enhances positive feelings.

And I can do it a lot.

How Positive Thinking Can Change Your Life

So you can see from this that the power of positive thinking really can change your life. If you are like most people the chances are you would have slipped into the latter frame of mind without even thinking. Needless to say if you didn’t believe in the power of positive thinking you wouldn’t get the same results.

Now imagine applying the power of positive thinking to every single day of your life. You would achieve more and open up more opportunities and chances for yourself because you would be thinking positively and looking at the world through a positive frame of mind. Can you see how the power of positive thinking really can influence how your life turns out?

The benefits of positive thinking should be clear. When you display a positive and upbeat attitude toward a person or circumstance in your life, you automatically attract a positive response. Granted, this is not 100 percent foolproof, and there are times that despite your positive outlook, situations don’t turn out the way you would want. Experts have shown that positive thinking goes beyond just making someone “feel good” on a superficial level. Studies have produced conclusive evidence that positive thinking can help prevent sickness and promote healing.

Positive thoughts come naturally for some people, but for others it may be more difficult. Regardless of your past, you can become a positive thinker. Accept the benefits of positive thinking. You must understand and believe that negative thoughts are detrimental to you and positive thoughts are helpful and healthy for you and for those around you. Consciously think good thoughts. Don’t be upset when a negative thought creeps up on you. Look closer at the situation and find the positive. Capture the power of positive thinking. Vacate your mind of any negative thought or feeling. Visualize the positive.
