Tips to stay Happy and Positive in life

Positivity in life is a trait that needs to be mastered than acquired by birth. You need constant investment in yourself and your thoughts to stay Positive and Optimistic. Happiness does relate to positivity and goes a long way to help you become a happy person. Happiness is in thoughts, its in our mind that comes out and shows up in many forms. A happy person is always happy no matter what the situation is and it has significant amount of impact on his conduct, actions, health and outlook towards life. It is like releasing the venom inside your mind and giving way to thoughts that makes us nothing but happy.

Tips to stay happy

1.  Take time to acknowledge personal accomplishments and celebrate success in a manner that can strengthen relationships. Keeping good social and personal relations are very effective means avoiding stress.

2.  Take good care of yourself. When you feel good, you also feel good and vice versa. Love yourself each day. Tell yourself ‘I love you’ and give yourself a hug everyday.

3.  Wear a smile everyday, compliment at least one person in the day, greet people, and take each day as the first day of the rest of your life. Do something new every day or as often as you can.

4.  Practice self-help methods, like writing journals, being passionate about work, taking on some hobbies, improving social life by meeting up with friends and relatives.
5.  Figure out your fun quotient of the day.

6.  Avoid procrastinations and perfectionism.

7.  Eat healthy and exercise regularly. For this, all one needs to do is wear one’s exercise shoes and step on one’s treadmill for a few minutes or even better, jog on beautiful beach side.

8.  Avoid addictions or any such risk-driven activity.

Here is some food for thought:

1.  Be assertive instead of being aggressive.

2.  Control anxiety by identifying one’s irrational thoughts and beliefs and rectifying them.

3.  Instead of cribbing, accept loss gracefully and move on with life.

4.  Replace low self-esteem with good-self image by always choosing to think positive, strengthening your talents and learning from your mistakes.

5.  Overcome ‘boredom’ with introduction of changes and passion in life.

6.  When feeling sad or low, you can have an attitude towards good thingsof life, and observing how you are better compared to some others who are not.

Do not base your happiness solely on material possessions. Learn how to be happy from within. Focus on the good things in your life, like your health. Develop a sense of well-being from within. Don’t live with the attitude of greed or excess. There is enough for everyone. Give away things that you don’t need that are still valuable and can be used by other people. Become earth friendly and recycle. Become more connected to your environment and community. Take care of yourself and others.

Create affirmations and get in touch with your God centeredness. Utilize what you have to create wealth. Avoid negative people who constantly talk about the recession and enjoy being miserable. Bless these people with love and be on your way. Connect with like minded people. This is how you will stay happy and positive during the recession.

Attitude ? Lessons from the Happy Barista

This post tells the story of how a positive attitiude leads to a positive outcome – wear your Friday attitude!

Yesterday afternoon while heading downtown to a showing, I stoppped off for a coffee at my favourite (independent) coffee shop here in Kitsilano. The Barista greeted me with a huge, warm smile and asked “How can I help you today sir?”. I asked for a small medium blend drip coffee and then couldn’t help but compliment her on her pleasant, positive demeanour and ask whether something unusually nice had happened to her that morning.

Her response was beautiful, she said, “No, nothing unusually good happened to me this morning, I just make a habit of wearing my Friday attitude every day of the week”. We laughed again and off I went.

Ten minutes later I was stuck in grid-lock traffic down on Burrard street. Since that chemical spill problem in the Electra building has kept Nelson Street closed, vehicle commuting downtown has been a nightmare. Drivers were upset, everyone running late for something. The guy next to me was losing it, flipping off everyone around him and swearing constantly under his breath.

I thought of my encounter with the happy barista, phoned my clients and calmy explained I’d be ten munites late. I then sat back, cranked up 103.5FM (yes, soft rock) and laughed in pity at all the poor angry souls around me taking the grid lock personally.

The lesson is one about attitude, your outlook on life at any point in time will directly reflect lifes ‘inlook’ on you.

I have attached a quote on positive attitude by Charles Swindall;

“The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life.

Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness, or skill. It will make or break a company … a church … a home.

The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past. We cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable.

The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude … I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me, and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you … we are in charge of our Attitudes.”

How to Manifest a Soul Mate – Just Be Happy and Positive

What kind of a question is this? Well it is actually a bit of a rhetorical question, because you manifest a soul mate the same way as you would manifest anything into your life, with positive affirmations and the absolute belief that you will find your soul mate.

One of the first steps to take in any kind of quest for what you want out of life is to be both grateful and happy for what you already have. An attitude of gratitude and being happy will always draw people and the things you want to you. One of the most profound truths in this universe is the laws of attraction. When we feel good and this is a choice that we have made and are committed to, things start to happen.

Feeling good about ourselves and the things we already have in our lives has a way of attracting even more to us. The universe acknowledges this and will happily respond to all our desires. Inner power is something that everything in the universe has, it is energy and everything is made up of it. The same applies to humans as applies to any hydrogen or carbon atom. The energy exists and strong mental focus will help it to manifest whatever it is you want out of life and if it is a soul mate, then a soul mate it is!

People who put an effort into the laws of attraction and see no results often give up believing that it doesn’t work. You have to make an effort to learn guides to the rules of the laws of attraction before you will manage to manifest anything and then, you can’t only concentrate of one aspect of your life, everything needs to be taken care of and everything has its place.

The more you concentrate on one thing and neglect the others, the less chance you have of succeeding. Learning only part of the principles of manifestation will not attract your hearts desires, just as not changing your diet won’t help with losing weight even if you are exercising more. You have to be prepared to look at this from a holistic aspect, taking everything into consideration.

Positive Psychology – What Makes People Happy is Pleasure

Smart Alek: What else, expect everyone else to look after me and vehemently complain if they try to stop! Their frustration and pain will be my ultimate pleasure.

All positive psychology practitioners agree that one crucial aspect in the psychology of what makes people happy is the development of pleasure. The seeking of pleasure underlines everything that we do. Even when we decide to do an activity that we know will not be pleasurable in the short term, we do it in the hope of it leading to an eventual outcome that will be pleasurable.

The research into how to become a happy person has shown that the pleasurable feelings and things that make people happy in the short term are not the most important factors in living a fulfilling life. Having a life filled only with pleasurable activities will not sustain most people as we need to have a greater sense of purpose that is effortful and aimed at benefiting others. I will address these issues in other articles. However, becoming a martyr is not how to become a happy person either. A life with little to no pleasure will lead to burn out.

When it comes to the psychology of happiness, learning how to become a happy person requires you to understand and develop the activities that you find the most pleasurable and know how to use them in order to increase the quality of your life. I have broken up the pleasurable things that make people happy into 2 categories, they are Regular Pleasures and Reward Pleasures. In daily life, it is important to have a few standard pleasures that are practiced regularly to make life enjoyable but in order to pull yourself towards growing as a person and achieving your greater goals, you need to create reward pleasures that you can only receive once you have earned them.

One of the flaws in the common psychology of what makes people happy in modern life, is many people are so used to immediate gratification that they will never obtain the full pleasurable feeling that comes from a reward that they have worked to earn. Compared to previous generations, luxury item debts are ludicrously high, and yet current generations are not happier. That is because the novelty of a fancy toy or experience that you did not work hard to obtain wears off quite quickly. You can not live a non challenging lifestyle and expect to feel intense pleasure. However, if your toy or experience is an honest and fair reward based on what you have accomplished, the potential pleasure of that reward once obtained is considerably greater.

When I decided to become a life skill coach and began work on my coaching program ‘Fulfilling Happiness’ one thing I really wanted was a motorcycle. However, I did not buy one. Instead I decided to make it my reward for when the program is completed. I can afford a motorcycle, especially when considering all I am seeking is an older bike that I can learn on. But I knew if I bought one, I would spend too much time on it learning and it would distract me from a more important and meaningful goal. That is why at the time of this article, I am still without a motorcycle as ‘Fulfilling Happiness’ is almost, but not quite complete. But that is ok, because in a short time it will be complete, and I will savour every moment of my sweet 100% deserved, completely guilt-free ride.

Positive Psychology: What makes people happy? Exercise: Write out a list of your current regular pleasures. (E.g. TV shows, social engagements, sports, reading, hobbies, creative pursuits etc) in your life and your larger pleasures (E.g. New products, holidays, special events etc). Then rank your regular pleasures in order of importance and plan how you could increase the time you spend on your favourites and decrease the time spent on ones that are not that enjoyable. With your larger pleasures, write down what important activities you need to accomplish first (and within what time frame) before rewarding yourself with them.

Confession: I’m really hard on myself and stress myself out regularly. If that sounds familiar to you, make sure you take steps to reduce negativity by practicing self love and appreciation.
